The Thanumalayan temple in Suchindram temple is dedicated to three different deities represented in one idol in the inner shrine Sthanu-Shiva, Maal-Vishnu and Ayam-Brahma. This is why it is called as Thanumalayan temple or kovil.
It has a great sculpture and architecture with a entrance tower visible from a distance as it is 134 ft high. The face of the tower is covered with sculptures & statues from Hindu scriptures. The main entrance has a 24 feet high beautifully carved door.
There is a corridor along the outer wall of the temple with many shrines and mandapams in the inner area. It has around 30 shrines of various deities within the temple complex including the large lingam in the inner shrine, the idol of Vishnu in the adjacent shrine and a large idol of Hanuman at the Eastern end.
The temple has quite a few sculptures and art. There is a Alankara mandapam next to the North corridor with four large pillars each formed by a group of smaller pillars all carved from a single stone. Two of these large pillars have 33 smaller pillars and the other two have 25 pillars each.
This temple is just 300m away from the Suchindram bus stop and can be reached easily by walk.
