The Keerthi Narayana temple in Talakadu is an important temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the Pancha Narayana Kshetras of lord Vishnu.
This temple was established for the wish of Shri Ramanujacharya during 10th century. Later it was construced in Hoyasala architecture during the ruling period of Hoyasala ruler Vishnuvardhana. Hoyasala ruler constructed this temple to represent their victory over Cholas during 12th century and it is the only Hoysala architecture found in Talakadu today.
During continuous rainfall and soil collapse, the outer wall of the Garbhagriha of the temple collapsed. The Archaeological survey of India gave the temporary support at that time and prevented the damage to the idols. Those idols were restored slightly away from the original place.
Earlier the sanctum had a place for worshipping goddess Sundaravalli to the south of the main idol. But the idol was covered with sand and only the main idol was installed now in navagraha mantapa.
The garbha griha has an eight feet tall idol of Keertinarayana(Lord Vishnu) on garuda peeta. The idol has 4 hands out of which the upper left hand holds 'Shankha', upper right hand holds 'Chakra', the lower left hand holds 'lotus flower' and the lower right hand holds 'mace'.
Talakadu bus stop is located at a distance of around 1.7 KM from the temple. You can take a local taxi or a auto to reach the temple easily.
