Sree Chitra Art Gallery is an art exhibit in Thiruvananthapuram which was established in 1935 and is located at the northern side of the Napier Museum. It was launched by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, popular as Sree Chithira Thirunal who was the last king of the Indian princely state of Travancore.
This gallery includes a unique collection of traditional and present-day paintings, including the works of Raja Ravi Varma, Rabindranath Tagore, C. Raja Raja Varma and others which in total have approximately 1100 paintings.
The art gallery displays paintings from famous Indian art styles like Mughal, Rajput, Bengal, Rajasthani and Tanjore. Also, Asian artworks from China, Japan, Bali and Tibetan Thangka are included here. Visitors can see ancient Indian wall paintings from prehistoric times.
This gallery also has miniature paintings from around the world along with copies of ancient wall paintings from places like Ajanta, Bagh, Sigiraya and some valuable old manuscripts(handwritten records). The major attraction in this gallery is a 400 year old Tanjore miniature paintings.
12B-Museum-Public Office complex is the nearest bus stop to this art gallery which is just 400m away and can be reached by walk. Trivandrum bus stand is located at a distance of around 3.4 KM from the gallery. You can take a local bus or auto from the bus stand.
