Sri Krishna temple also known as Sri Krishna Math is a famous historic Hindu temple dedicated to Krishna & Dvaita matha in Udupi. The Matha area resembles a living Aashram, a holy place for daily devotion & living.
There are several temples surrounding this temple like Udupi Anantheshwara temple which is over a thousand years old. The daily sevas to god and organization of Krishna Mathas is managed by the Ashta Mathas. Each of the Ashta Mathas performs temple management activities for two years in a cyclical order.
Festivals:
Paryay is a religious ritual festival held once every two years in this temple. Also, festivals like Makara Sankranti, Ratha Sapthami, Madhva Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Naraka Chaturdashi, Deepavali, Vijaya Dashami and Geetha Jayanthi are celebrated by Paryaya Mutt every year in the temple.
History:
This Matha was founded by Vaishnavite saint Madhvacharya in 13th century who is Dvaita school founder. It is believed that Madhvacharya found the vigraha of Krishna in a large ball of gopichandana(yellow-brown colored clay taken from city of Dwarka, birth place of lord Krishna).
Devotees always have darshan of Krishna through the inner window, known as the Navagraha Kindi and the outer window known as the Kanakana Kindi, which is decorated by an arch named after the saint Kanakadasa.
How To Reach:
Udupi bus stand is just about 700 m away from this temple and Udupi railway station is 3.5 KM away from the temple. So, you cam reach the temple by walk from bus stand and you can hire a local taxi to reach the temple from railway station.
