About Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple

Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple is a popular temple in Vikarabad. It is called Ananthagiri Anantha Padmanabha swamy temple. It is one of the ancient temples located in the Ananthagiri hills.

The area is surrounded by natural beauty of hills, dense forests and peaceful environment. This temple may have been built around 1300 AD. There is a holy lake located next to the temple called Bhagirath Gundam and devotees believe that bathing in it relieves all sins. 

Devotees who came to visit the temple perform holy bath first in this Bhagirath Gundam and have darshan of the lord. There is also other belief that bathing here helps one to get children.

A fair is held here for two times every year which is celebrated for 11 days including the Karthika Pournami day. In the month of Ashada, this festival is celebrated for 5 days.

History:

According to Skanda Purana, it is said that the temple was built by a sage Markandeya during Dwapara Yuga. Markandeya was attracted by the peaceful atmosphere of this area and decided to do meditation or yoga in the Ananthagiri hills. 

Every day he used to go Kashi from here with is yoga practice and take a holy bath in Ganges river. One day due to the entry of twelve-day(Dwadashi/nearly full moon) moon in the morning he could not go to Kashi. Then Lord Shiva appeared and arranged Ganges river for him to take a bath.

 How To Reach:

Vikarabad bus stand is located at a distance of around 7 KM from the temple. From bus stand, you can take a local taxi or auto to reach the temple.
