About Kuruvadweep

Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island is a 950 acre protected river delta(wetland at the end of a river). It includes three thickly forested deserted islands and a few temporary islands that get drowned during high water which lies on the banks of the tributaries of Kabini river in the Wayanad district of Kerala. It is unoccupied island, which is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants and more.

These islands consists of dense & evergreen forest and its special land features make it a place where not only the leaves but also silence is evergreen. It has been named as the most visited place in the district by tourists across the country. It is surrounded by streams and has availability of  river rafting, fiber boats that run by Kerala Tourism department. 

Significance

The island entrance is restricted and is monitored by the Kerala Forest Department initiated in the sake of protecting forest. Due to the high population of elephants and other animals in the island, a pass must be obtained before the visit to island, from Department of Forest. 

Heavy rainfall causes the streams to overflow, and the water level rises to a dangerous height. These islands contains dense and evergreen forest that are untouched and this is why, it is home to rare kinds of flora and fauna. It is usually closed to the public from May last to early December due to the rains.

How To Reach

Kattikulam bus stop is the nearest stop to Kuruvadweep at a distance of around 6 KM. You can take a local bus or auto from the bus stop to reach the island.
