Alleppey also called Alappuzha is a municipality and town located on the shores of the Laccadive Sea in Kerala. It is also the district headquarters of Alappuzha district. The name Alappuzha is a toponym( name based on local language & geography) in which Alayam means home and 'puzha' means watercourse or river as mentioned in Dr. Herman Gundert's dictionary.
