Dubare Elephant Camp is in Dubare forest located in Coorg district. It is an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department's elephants. There are opportunities for trekking, elephant interaction and stay which are hosted by Jungle Lodges & Resorts and Karnataka Forest Department. Visitors can observe, interact and learn about Asiatic elephants closely. Here activities include feeding the elephants, watching bathing rituals and even can ride on elephant. The camp is also home to various birds, deer & reptiles, non-venomous snakes, crocodiles, bears, leopards, tigers, spotted deer, sambhar and more.
Dubare was once a training ground for elephants used in the famous Mysore Dasara festival. Forest department elephant trainers trained for festive gatherings and forest work. Today, it works as a rehabiltation and eco-tourism center, promoting awareness about elephant conservation & forest ecology. The camp can be a educational tour for students and wildlife lovers as they watch in depth of elephant behavior, biology and conservation efforts.
