About Gaddige or Raja's Tomb

Gaddige also known as Raja's Tomb is a historical attraction in Madikeri of Coorg district. It is built in Indo-Islamic architectural style that houses the mortal remains (human remains) of Kodava royalty and dignitaries. It is surrounded by full of greenery and scenic views and is a peaceful spot showcasing Coorg's royal past.

History

It was built in the early 19th century, the tombs belong to King Dodda Virarajendra, his wife, and his minister. The architecture of this tomb is a blend of Islamic & Hindu architectural styles. This style includes domes and minarets(pillars) along with carved figures. It represents the respect and devotion Kodavas had for their rulers. It is a cultural fusion and historical legacy.

How To Reach

Madikeri is the nearest bus stop to Raja's tomb situated at a distance of around 1.4 KM. You can easily reach here by hiring a local taxi or a auto rickshaw.
