Omkareshwara temple is a prominent shrine of lord Shiva located in Madikeri, Coorg district. It is known for its unique architectural blend of Gothic & Islamic styles. It is situated near a pond and was built by King Lingarajendra II in 1820. The temple has a large central dome, minarets(pillars) and a water tank which is home to different varieties of fish is in front of the temple. This peaceful temple is best spiritual center and a unique architectural site for visitors.
This temple was built in 1820 by the King of Kodagu or Coorg, Linga Rajendra II. He built it to seek forgiveness after killing a Brahimn. The temple is named after Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga(one of the 12 jyotirlingas) in Madhya Pradesh. It is a place of religious importance, but also a symbol of devotion and cultural harmony.
Madikeri bus stand is just 800 m away from this temple. So, you can reach the temple by walk or by auto rickshaw.
