Raja's Seat is a prime attraction in Madikeri of Coorg district. It is located in the middle of a garden called Gandhi Mandap. The mandap is made of brick and mortar including four pillars that are connected by arches. The garden is known for its best scenery and was a favoruite place for the Rajas. It was used by the Kings & Queens of Kodagu who were the rulers of Karnataka for over 200 years. Hence it was permanently associated with them and called the Raja's seat.
It was built on high level ground facing the high rocks and valleys. The Sarvodaya Diwas or Martyr's Day is celebrated annually on 30th January in Coorg. It was also the day of Gandhiji's assassination(targeted killing) in 1948. On this day, a special march is held, and a pot with Gandhiji's ashes is taken to Raja's seat.
Also, the verses from Bhagawad Gita, Koran and the Bible will be recited. Bhajans are sung, floral tributes are paid and a few minutes of silence will be done to pay respects.
Madikeri bus stop is situated at a distance of 1.3 KM from Raja's seat. You can reach Raja' s seat easily by walk or by auto rickshaw.
