About Talacauvery

Talacauvery or Talakveri is the origin or source of the river Kaveri which is located on Brahmagiri hills in Coorg district. It is near Bhagamandala and is close to the Kerala border. Talakaveri is at a height of about 1276 meters above sea level. The river's  origin is set up in a  small holy water tank on a hillside. 

The river emerges from a natural spring and flows to this holy tank. Then the water flow underground forming the Kaveri river. On Kaveri Sankramana day which is first day of 'Tula Masa' - mid-October (a month name in Hindu Calendar) there will be rise in flow of water from the spring and this day devotees across towns come to watch the moment.There is a small temple dedicated to Goddess Kaveramma along with other deities Agasthiswara. It denotes the link between Kaveri & Sage Agasthya.

History

Mayira Varma and Kadama King Narasimman ruled vast areas of southern & central India in 4th Century A.D. They brought Brahmins from Ahi Kshetra to look after & worship in various temples located in Tulu Nadu.

The Brahmins who first landed in Shivalli in Tulunadu and other 31 villages came to be known as Shivalli Brahmins or Tulu Brahmins. These brahimns from Shivalli & Tulunadu are the priests of Talakaveri temple.The Brahmagiri hill is situated right beside the temple with a series of steps leading to the hill top. From the top view, one can enjoy a 360 degree view of the surrounding hills. 

How To Reach

Bhagamandala bus stand is the nearest bus stand to Talakaveri temple at a distance of 8.4 KM. Buses will be available from the bus stand to reach the temple by KSRTC. Else, you can hire a taxi to reach the temple.
