Guna Caves was first called as Devil's Kitchen and it is a cave in Kodaikanal. It is a popular attraction and it got the name as a movie of Kamal Hasan "Guna" was shot here. After this movie shooting, more visitors and tourists gathered here. Later more films were shot here and recently another film "Manjummel Boys" was shot here in 2024 and it was based on the real accident in the cave.
These caves were recorded by British officer B.S Ward in 1821 and he named it Devil's Kitchen. In 1991, the caves & surrounding areas were the prime locations in Guna movie that led to attract more tourists.In 2006, a group of friends from Manjummel, Kochi, Kerala went to explore the caves and one of them fell into a hole. Later he got rescued through efforts, along with locals & police support. This incident was displayed in Manjummel Boys movie. As of 2024, the road to the cave was reopened to the public, but the entrance to the cave still remains closed for the tourists safety.
Kodaikanal bus stand is 6.7 KM away from Guna caves. You can take a local taxi to reach Guna caves from the bus stand. As journey to Kodaikanal will be on ghat roads, there is no railway station at the nearest distance. You will have to take a local taxi to visit Guna caves in Kodaikanal.
