Adisesha, Takshaka, karkotaka and other serpents(snakes) worshiped Siva at this place. This is why the place is named as Tirunageswaram. At Senbaranya kshetram Adisesha did penance on account of the presence of large number of Senbaga(golden champa or Sampangi) trees.
