About Thiruvenkadu Budhan Bhagavan temple

The Thiruvenkadu Budha Bhagavan temple is also referred to as Swetharanyeswarar temple which is the main Shiva temple at Tiruvenkadu. It is located in Mayiladuthurai district of TamilNadu. 

The main deity lord Shiva is worshiped as Swetharanyeswarar in the form of longa along with his consort/wife Parvati devi in the form of Brahmavidyambigai or Brahmavidya Nayaki. 

Significance:

This temple is significant as it also has a shrine of  Budhan(Mercury) and is known as Budha Sthalam. It is one of the nine Navagraha temples in TamilNadu and is part of the popular Navagraha pilgrimage. 

It is also called the Varanasi of South. The temple is known for the three murthis, three theerthams(temple tanks), three Shaktis and three trees. The temple complex covers around two acres.

The original temple complex is believed to have been built by the Cholas, with the present masonry structure constructed by Vijayanagar kings during the 16th century.

How To Reach:

Tiruvenkadu bus stop is located at a distance of around 700m from the temple. You can reach the temple from bus stop by walk easily.
