Mysore Zoo is also known as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological garden. It was established to save wildlife and to connect humans & animals. It provides best educational experience. It is one of the oldest zoos of the country and is known for its cleanliness, conservation of endangered ( at the stage of extinction) species. It houses exotic animals from around the globe and includes wide variety of animals, visitor facilities. waste management and water harvesting system and rescue & rehabiltation of wild animals.
History:
This zoo was established in 1892 within 10.9 acres area and in 1907 another 6.22 acres were added. Later in 1909 zoo was named after the founder Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur.
In 1948, organization of zoo was transferred to horticulture department and another 50 acres of land was acquired which in total has increased to 78 acres.
In 1960, Indian Board for Wildlife had recommended to designate the zoo as a National Breeding Centre of Wild animals.
In 1972, Mysore Zoo organization was transferred to Forest department. In 1976, zoo authorities acquired Karanki lake and in 1979, organization transferred to Karnataka Zoo authority.
In 1984, they launched animal adoption scheme and rescue has been started. In 2020, Mysore zoo modernised housing more than 1450 specimens of 168 different species from more than 30 countries.
In 2022, this zoo started showcasing a wide variety of animals focusing on conservation. It became a hub for wildlife awareness.

By Bus:
Mysore bus stand is located at a distance of around 2 KM from the zoo. After reaching Mysore bus stand, you can take an auto rickshaw or a bus to reach there.
By Car:
You can hire a taxi to reach the zoo or you can drive through your personal car.
