The Govindaraja Swamy temple is a temple in Tirupati on the Koneti ridge near railway station. The main deity in this temple is Govindaraja Swamy, brother of lord Venkateswara. It is said that he was tired of counting the money that Kubera had lent for his younger brother's marriage and was resting in lower Tirupati.
This temple is organized by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. The temple has two gopurams. The outer temple's air gopuram is very large. The inner gopuram is beautiful with sculptures of Ramayana & Bhagavata stories. The idol of Govindarajaswamy is represented as lying on the reclining Adisesha.
The idol here is in sleeping position with feet towards North, head towards the south and hands filled with shankam on one side and chakra on other side. He is four-armed, with Brahma in his navel, a crown on his head and ornaments.
In the southern part of the temple, there is a Parthasaradhi temple with Rukmini and Satyabhama. In the month of Vaisakha, the Govindarajaswamy Brahmotsavams are held with great splendor. There is a large Koneru in front of the temple.
Tirupati bus stand is located at a distance of around 1.3 KM from the temple. You can reach the temple by taking a local taxi or bus from the bus stand.
