Ooty Lake is an artificial lake near Ooty and it is spread within 64 acres. This lake is surrounded by Eucalptus tree groves. On one side of the lake runs a railway line. During the summer season in May, boat races and boat parade are organised for two days.The lake faced continuous problems with overgrowing weeds(unwanted plants). The officials of Public Works Department(PWD) have been continuously worked to clean the lake.
This artificial lake was constructed by John Sullivan in 1824. A dam was built to collect the water flowing from the mountain streams in the Ooty valley forming the lake. The lake became empty three times when the lake overflowed its boundary. Actually the purpose of this lake construction was for fishing, with ferries to travel across the lake. Later, it got shrunk from its original size. Then TTDC tokk the charge of the lake in 1973 and made it a tourist attraction with boating facilities,
Ooty Lake is located at a distance of 1.3 KM from Ooty. Ooty bus stand is located at a distance of 1.9 KM from this lake. So, you can take a local taxi to reach the Ooty Lake after reaching the Ooty bus stand.Ooty railway station is 2.3 KM away from the lake and you can take a local taxi from the station to reach Ooty Lake.
