Srirangapatna Tipu Fort

Tippu Fort is a historical fort located in Srirangapatna which is the historical capital city of Karnataka. It was built by Timmanna Nayaka in 1454 and was modified by King Haider Ali & King Tipu Sultan.  It was then enhanced as a fort in the late 18th century with the help of French architects. Rivers protect the fort on three sides where Kaveri borders in West and Northern directions. Once, the fort included Lal Mahal and King Tipu Sultan's Palace but were destroyed when British captured it in 1799. 

Historical Significance:

The fort was built in 1454 CE during the Vijayanagara Empire and it was in the hands of that empire until 1495. Then Wodeyars conquered it. During 1782, King Tipu Sultan, the son of king Hyder Ali, took control of the fort and added fortifications.  The Ranganatha swamy temple inside the fort is believed to have been built by Ramanuja.  There is also a Narasimha swamy temple inside the fort.

It is sitated in Srirangapatna and is just 240 m away from Srirangapatna bus stand and 2.1 KM from Srirangapatna railway station.

By Bus

You can board the bus from your home location and can reach Tipu fort easily by walking or by taking a auto rickshaw. From Mysore, you can take a KSTDC bus. 

By Train

 Board the train from your location and halt at Srirangapatna station. From the station, you can take a city bus(313 A, 307 R) or a auto rickshaw to reach the fort. 

By Car

You can hire a taxi to the fort from your location or drive through your personal car to reach directly.
