The Gudimallam Shivalingam is an ancient lingam located in the Parashurameswara Swamy temple in Gudimallam village in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. It is well known for being the first Shiva temple in india dating back to the Satavahana period.
The premises house the Anandavalli Devi, Srivalli Devasena Subramanya swamy, Surya Bhagavan, Vinayakudu temple etc. The Archaeological Survey of India determined that the Shiva temple dates back to the 2nd century BCE. The temple was declared a national treasure in 1973.
The name of this temple is mentioned in inscriptions as Parashurameswara temple. These inscriptions do not mention the actual builders of the temple. Sherds of black and red ware dating back to the 2nd or 3rd century CE were found during discoveries conducted in 1973.
The inner shrine of the Parasurameswara swamy temple is built in a square shape and enclosed by a curved wall at one end. This curved design shows that temple was originally built using materials that did not last long over time.
Tirupati bus stand is located at a distance of around 19.8 KM from Gudimallam. You can take a local taxi or bus to reach the temple from the bus stand. Buses run frequently in this route.
